Ear Care Education is able to provide a mentorship program across both England and Wales  for those who find it difficult to access a suitable ear care mentor in their workplace.

A highly trained nurse will attend your place of work for a full working day (up to 8 hours). You will be observed in a clinic of your own patients/ clients using your own equipment putting into practice the knowledge you have gained and performing the skills you have practised/ observed while studying.

The mentorship program will provide you with:

• An opportunity to utilise the wealth of knowledge from one of our extremely experienced nurses on a one to one basis in your own environment.
• The opportunity to discuss and use you own equipment.
• The security of performing microsuction or irrigation  under close supervision and therefore increasing confidence in your ability to provide safe and effective ear care.

Your mentor will provide advice and support in all areas surrounding microsuction or irrigation including:

• Patient assessment to determine suitability.
• The procedure itself.
• Infection prevention.
• Record keeping.

Your mentor will document your session; you will receive a copy of the mentorship record as evidence of your completion.

Please ensure the following is in place prior to arrival of our specialist nurse:

• Suitable clinical area
• Suitable number of patient appointments pre-arranged in approximately 45 minute appointments (approximately 8-10 patients per session)
• All equipment required to carry out the microsuction or irrigation procedure correctly and safely (A list of equipment can be provided on request)
• Appropriate insurance which covers you to perform the procedure

Please note: Although the mentorship program has been designed to increase your confidence, we are unable to verify competency within one session. As with all procedures clinical competency can only achieved by practice.
